Their opponents may not be in the same league as them. But still one cannot but help feel optimistic about the chances of Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong at the All England Championship at the National Indoor Arena at Birmingham.
Koo/Tan defeat Japan's Naoki Kawamae/Shoji Sato 21-11, 21-18 to book their place in the second round where they will most likely play against the newly crowned German Open champions Hong Wei/Shen Ye who are expected to get past Poland's Adam Cwaina/Michal Logosz.
There was more focus on the court by Koo/Tan, and the manner in which they played in the first set was simply fantastic. But it was the second set that will probably cause some raised eyebrows for coach Tan Kim Her as the duo were guilty of making elementary mistakes and survived largely due to the fact that the Japanese pair made more mistakes.
