NOT A VINTAGE PERFORMANCE

It was not a vintage performance from World number one Lee Chong Wei, but nonethless he did enough to ease through to the quarterfinals stage of the All England Championships at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham.

Chong Wei however paid tribute to his opponent Hans-Kristian Vittinghus of Denmark after registering a 23-21, 21-18 win.

The defending champion trailed for the entire first set and only took the lead at 18-17 and Vittinghus held set point twice but failed to finish it off as Chong Wei closed it at the first time of asking.

And in the second Chong Wei led 18-15 but allowed the Dane to draw level at 18 all before pulling away.

"It was a good match as my opponent had nothing to lose and gave it his all. In fact he caught me several times with his shots. And I really must give him credit for putting up a fight as it helps me towards preparing for the quarterfinals," said Chong Wei.
