IRISH DEFEAT, BITTER PILL TO SWALLOW

In what can be considered a preview of the Champions Challenge II semi final, Malaysia went down 2-1 to Ireland in the first friendly match played last night.
A text message followed by an email from former Malaysian assistant coach Arul Selvaraj confirmed the scoreline and both our men's and women's teams have lost to Ireland within a week.
Ireland led 2-0 in the first half through goals by Alan Sotherland who converted a penalty corner and Tim Lewis who picked up a penalty corner rebound to score.
Malaysia had the Irish under pressure in the first 10 minutes of the second half and reduced the deficit but failed to get the equaliser despite uperior in speed and fitness.
For the record, Ireland are ranked 18th in the world. Arul is the assistant coach to the Irish team which is being coached by former South African coach Paul Revington.
