Following the recent AFC Congress, there were many reports on how split Asian Football was as a result of the intense campaigning between the two candidates.
But what many of my friends in the main stream media failed to realise was the split within the Asean Football Federation (AFF). It is an open secret that Thailand and Singapore were supporting the incumbent and Malaysia leading the opposition camp. This is indeed serious as Asean solidarity is at stake no thanks to some clever maneuvering by certain quarters in the Asean football fraternity.
There has been pin drop silence in the aftermath of the AFC Congress. But what saddens me most is the fact that Malaysia was one of the countries that did not support the statement of accounts, despite the fact that it was Tun Daim Zainuddin that presented the audited statement.
Maybe the FAM were irked by the fact that the AFC President met our Prime Minister without going through them. Well it has happened before as Dato Najib went to the AFC House together with the then Sports Minister Datuk Azalina Othman said and current NSC supremo, Dato Zolkples Embong.
So who arranged the meeting this time around then?
