SUKMA - A BURDEN NOW?

When the first Malaysian Games was introduced in 1986, the whole intention was noble. That is to have a multi sporys event that will help state sports bodies get assistance from their respective state government so as to enable to sport to be continued in providing athletes of national material.

When it started growing in the years to come, it shifted into a giant affair with milluons being pumped in to emerge champions, so much so that athlete pinching became a norm and the developmental aspects shunned.

And suddenly someone had this bright idea, that Sukma should be held every year with the National Sports Council having the host job in odd years.

And the NSC oftened frowned at the audacious spending when states organised it thus promising to keep it small in terms of budgeting.

Did they succeed in their so called noble intention and does this odd year Sukma actually serve a purpose?

On both accounts the answer is a big NO. It does not focus on sports that can deliver nation medals such as the Asiad or Olympics but rather dwells on lesser sports which should not be NSC's domain but rather sports for all.

It is the financial aspect that is most worrying as it was reported today that NSC had to fork out RM8 million and could only raise RM1 million for this years edition of Sukma.

This is a major concern and the Sports Minister needs to have a complete relook at the funding of his Ministry.

Why spend a whopping RM15 million in the Tour de Langkawi?  Another few millions in the Monsoon Cup? And there are many multi million ringgit events that will be endless if it were to be listed.

Acceptance of the fact that NSC has erred in making the decision to hold Sukma yearly will be a major step but expecting that will be akin to raising the Titanic.

But hope and accountability is what we have and pray for.

MHC NOMINATION UNDER INVESTIGATION

The Malaysian Hockey Confederation is said to have launched an investigation as to why it had nominated someone not associated with the sport for a vice president position in the forthcoming Olympic Council of Malaysia elections.

Despite being asked several times, MHC Secretary General Johari Abdul Aziz refused to divulge as to why they had nominated the said official and questions posed to other elected members of the MHC drew bewilderment as no one was aware that such a nomination was sent.

Thus this issue is now expected to be raised at the MHC Management Committee meeting on June 30 as no meetings of MHC has been held since March 23, the last Council meeting.

Johari confirmed that they had nominated the said personality but did not want to divulge information as to how the decision was derived but made it clear that he had not received an instruction from the MHC President Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION IN OCM ELECTIONS?

It was only something that many had alleged over the past two weeks or so. But of late more evidence is surfacing on this alleged government interference, or rather one top civil servant, interfering with the elections of the Olympic Council of Malaysia.

And if the evidence is forwarded to the International Olympic Committee, it will have dire consequences on Malaysian Sports.

At least one national body has confirmed that its official received instructions from the top civil servant to submit a nomination for a particular candidate. And the nomination was duly submitted without the national body holding any meetings at its council to deliberate on the nomination.

This could probably be the tip of the iceberg. Just how many others were coerced into making the nominations is left to be seen.

More later as we strive to bring you the truth despite cyber troopers aligned to top civil servants attacking this blogger in veiled threats of late.

ONE DOWN, HOW MANY MORE

After having snubbed Badminton Association of Malaysia and spoken out against decisions taken by the Football Association of Malaysia,  Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin made what is perhaps the decision that has been anticipated by many - having a new KSU at the helm at the Ministry of Youth and Sports as reported by Bernama earlier today.

The replacement will bring joy to many but therr will also be those who will frown at the decision taken as the former KSU has worked his way up and now will be placed at the JPA.

Next the focus will be in the Sports Commissioner and it is clear that the former KSU will not be placed there since he will be placed back into the pool at JPA awaiting his next assignment.

Which brings us to the question on just who will assume the post at the Sports Commissioner Office.

There is talk that Dato Jalil Abdullah, a senior director at NSC could move there since his relationship with the current DG is rather strained.

But there has also been some talk among the grapevines that former National Sports Institute Director General Dato Dr. Ramlan Azuz could be reinstated.

Should that happen then the current NSI DG Ahmad Shapawi Ismail could take a short walk across to the SC office.

Khairy has been keeping his cards close to his chest on making changes but knowing him, Khairy speaks as he thinks,  and he is not one to hold back words.

While other Ministers take time to settle down, Khairy had got down to work, not even concerned that some minnows make more statement on sports of late.

HAS KHAIRY BEEN REPLACED?

Perhaps Khairy Jamaluddin could have the shortest reign as the Minister of Youth and Sports given the various reports appearing in the main stream media over the past few days.

Reports on football, badminton and hockey, attributed to the National Sports Council Director General have touched raw nerves and can be considered as government interference and left unchecked can be considered also as usurping the authority of KJ.

Lets take it one by one and start with football. It is FAM's decision as to who they want to play, be it a schoolboy team, a kampung side or an estate team, as preparation for the Asia Cup matches. The decision is solely for FAM to make and it seems now that the NSC DG has a degree is coaching as well.

Obviously Rajagobal has his own reasons and if the NSC feel strongly then they should not fund any part of the trip down under.

Next is hockey where the NSC DG lamented that MHC should not do away with age group tournaments. Please get your facts right as mo tournament has been done away with and the NSC has not paid their share of the NSC-MILO-MHC Junior Hockey League.

So when sponsors like NSC cannot meet their obligations, is it wrong for a national body to reduce the number of tournaments they organise?

That is not all for the DG also spoke on development programs and the lack of teams in the age group level. He should ask the question to himself as what is happening to the well funded 1MAS Program which he chairs?

Why is it that it takes club funding to start a goalkeeping clinic and not via 1MAS which gets RM3 million annually from the government!

Talking about age group teams, hello, do you remember that it is NSC that has cut the funding as during the tenure of Dato Mazlan Ahmad a sum of RM3.2 million was allocated annually towards funding an U14, U16, U18 and juniors side as well as funding for coach education, umpires development as well as clinics.

Then we move on to badminton and the statement that BAM should allow Independant players to train with the national set up. Does the NSC DG realize the conditions set by BAM, or rather by two personalities in BAM - cannot wear sponsor logo, cannot have their coaches on court, cannot train except when called to do so.

And talking about Independant players, what happened to the proposal for NSC to save the career of youngster Zulfadli Zulkifli. Six months have passed since a verbal agreement was made but nothing came out of it.

So rather then going around slandering me, it's best that the NSC DG walk the talk and look within and answer these questions.

And yes I also know about what you do and have done, so two can play this game. You are not gods gift to Malaysian Sports.

THE WRITING IS ON THE WALL

Perhaps it can be called divine intervention as Malaysia exited the Sudirman Cup last night, going down 3-2 to Germany, an unimaginable defeat to a foe, if one could call them that.

The defeat is so bitter to swallow given the fact that our players are ranked above the Germans in the BWF rankings and in Malaysian sports history it is a black spot, akin to Malaysia losing to Korea in Sepak Takraw a few years ago.

Divine intervention because it was a clear message of punishment from god to the powers that be in the administrative and executive structure of BAM that they have collectively failed the nation and thus should walk the plank, if they were in the navy.

Excuses will be a plenty, from blaming the players, coaches and so forth, but the crux of the matter is Malaysia failed to make the last eight for the first time since promoted to the elite division in 2005.

It all started when BAM neglected the needs and requirements of the domestic scene as their top leader went on to make a pact so that he could come out smelling like roses in the quest for world badminton supremacy off the court.

A coup was conducted to remove a legitimately elected BAC President in March, underhand tactics used to prevent legitimate delegates into the BAC AGM in Taiwan and culminating with the defeat of an Asian candidate in the race for BWF Presidency.

All in the name of Asian solidarity, something that the Malaysian media was guilty of over playing when it was clear that Asian disunity was the margin of defeat when votes were tallied in the BWF Presidential elections.

It is simple, there has been a systematic process of elimination of players within the BAM stable and using team events to boost the points of players within their stable to ensure that only their favorite sons make the grade.

So the notion of the best representing Malaysia is a farce, so much so that not only are there skeletons in the cupboard in terms of on the court misgivings but this has spread to even giving out lucrative contracts to selected individuals for their support off the court as some key officials continue to cling on to power.

The time has come to dissolve BAM, really that is the best solution. A sport that is courted by the top leaders in the country has today brought shame to a nation that was the world leader of the sport.

While Malaysia is responsible, or rather BAM solely, is the key reason why an European today is BWF President, we have gone one step further by even letting the European beat us on the court.

So if there is a semblance of dignity left within those administrating the sport, then please UBAH, by resigning today and not prolong the misery. For 12 years we have heard the excuses, the promises, so much so we have puked many a time.

The writing is on the wall, get out now....

WHERE IS YOUR SPIRIT BAM

The Badminton Association of Malaysia is fretting about the World Badminton Federation giving a wild card to China's ace Lin Dan.

And it's Secretary Ng Chin Chai has been quoted as saying that it was not done in the spirit of the game and BWF was in support of China.

To add insult to injury, there have even been suggestions that the wild card was issued as certain quarters in BEF were unhappy with BAM's support of a particular candidate in the BWF presidential election.

Well BAM should take a good look at themselves in the mirror when talking of fair play as it is evident Chin Chai does not practice what he preaches.

Why have two Malay boys, Zakry and Fairuz denied a place in the World Championships and the places given to a BAM pair?

It was clear the BAM pair was helped in its cause as the duo were given places in the Thomas Cup and allowed to play in the Badminton Asia Championship, both events where BAM does the selection.

The combines points derived from these two events was above 7,000 and that gave an advantage to the BAM pair.

Do not give any bullshit when it's clear that even in Malaysia, there is discrimination in sports and the current BAM regime is to blame.

So rather then blame everyone else, always remember that god rewards you in a mysterious way and you are to blame for your misdemeanor on earth.

IS THIS HOW WE TREAT ATHLETES?

Just take a look at the picture below and it tells you a million tales on how sports is administrated in the country. These are our nations divers, sleeping on the floor at an airport in USA , in transit for 8 hours.

This picture was taken from the twitter of Olympic bronze medallist Pandelela Rinong.

Am sure there will be loads of excuses and cover up, but can someone explain why they had to sleep on the floor?
